Music and Me

Hi everyone! I'm Allie Nepomuceno and I really love music! I'm from Los Angeles, California and I'm a sophomore here at Converse. I came here to play soccer and also to study Psychology! Other than soccer and my major, like mentioned before I am very much into music (all kinds), but I am also very into traveling, movies, reality tv, nature, fashion, and iconic people in history/pop culture ranging from Princess Diana to John F. Kennedy (it is strange, but I think they are so interesting).

1. An example of music that is my current go-to:

My current go-to is anything by the band Sharon Van Etten. I am really loving their music right now. I had known some of their songs years ago but never fully delved into their music until earlier this year. During Jan term I didn't have much to do so I started watching this show on Netflix called "Maid" because I'm a huge fan of the lead actress Margaret Qualley and had been meaning to start the show for a while. In the show, a few of Sharon Van Etten's songs are featured and I absolutely fell in love with them so I had to dive deeper into their other songs. I am now a huge fan and find myself playing their music every time I put my headphones on. One song that I currently am really loving by them is their single "Let Go."

2. An example of music that is really important to me:

Tons and tons of music hold a lot of importance to me, but one example of music that is really close to my heart and just transports me to happier times is the entire discography of the band Haim. They are a band made up of 3 sisters, and back home, me and 2 of my best friends are completely obsessed with everything about them. From their music to their personalities and style as people, we love it all. In 2022, the 3 of us went to their concert at the Hollywood Bowl as they were on their tour "One More Haim Tour." The memory of that day is one of my favorites. We had the most fun ever, and of course, the music was great. The band is also based in Los Angeles so their music just feels like home for me. My mom also really loves their music and we love to put them on in the car together. So, whenever any Haim song comes on, I always think of how much fun I have with my friends and my mom because of their music. One song in particular that is a classic Haim favorite of mine is "Now I'm In It" off their album "Women in Music Pt. III." It never fails to make me smile.

3. Music I don't connect with:

I really will listen to just about anything, but one song that I just cannot stand is "Tennessee Whiskey" by Chris Stapleton. I know everyone loves it, but I personally think it is overplayed and I also just have bad associations with that song. I also just am not the biggest Chris Stapleton fan, I understand he is loved by many, but weirdly I don't like his voice so I just prefer to not listen to him at all. Sorry Chris.

4. Bonus music:

I didn't share this artist above, but I can't not talk about Clairo when I talk about music. She has been my favorite artist ever since she first started making music, and throughout her career I've just been obsessed with everything she has put out. The style of her music just comforts me, and her lyrics are amazing. She's also just really cool, and I'll forever mourn the fact that I had to sell my tickets to her "Sling" tour because I ended up having a soccer tournament that day. All her albums are great from first to last track, but her debut studio album "Immunity" will always be special to me. The song "North" on that album just might be my favorite song ever.

  1. Hi Allison, I also love Clairo! The song that you chose is such a good recommendation for those who haven’t heard of her! Something interesting that I found is your current go-to music. I’ve never heard of the band Sharon Van Etten and I ended up enjoying the song that you uploaded!

  2. Hey Allie, I really liked the song Now I'm In It. I've never heard of it but I enjoyed the fast-paced beat it has. I think I'll have to dive into more of their songs. I found it interesting how all the songs you like have a somewhat fast and lively pace but Tennessee Whiskey is the opposite. I won't lie I was obsessed with it but I do get that it is overplayed.

  3. Hi! Allie, I absolutely LOVE your blog. Although our music taste is different; I love your passion for the artist that you did share. I also agree with you on the Chris Stapleton part I don't really care for him also. To me he just WAY over played...for what. Also. HAIM I love their collab with T-Swift.
